The existing barn building on the estate was in a state of disrepair and needed to come down. The brief was to replace this with a summer house with a garage, shower room, kitchen and entertainment area. A simple sloping roofline meeting at the point of transition of the internal space breaks the massing and form of the building.
Limited at its highest point to the structure it replaces, the main entertainment space opens up with its full height sliding doors protected by a generous overhang. The larch timber cladding, which will eventually weather and grey, provides a nod to the existing barn that it will be replacing.
